THE ACES RELEASE NEW SINGLE “GIRLS MAKE ME WANNA DIE”
Indie-pop quartet The Aces are back with a heartbreak banger just in time for the Pride Festival season. Hearkening back to unrequited love of awkward teenage years, “Girls Make Me Wanna Die” is a queer anthem with a message that’s universally relatable.
The song shows the bands evolution, diving further into the pop soundscape while striking balance with their edgy, alternative identities. It’s playful, but cool, and bound to get fans moving.
When asked about the inspiration behind the song, The Aces collectively shared, “‘Girls Make Me Wanna Die’ is a nostalgic call back to our adolescence and shared experience of being young, queer, and painfully in love with your best friend. Everyone remembers that feeling. So many ‘what if’s’, so much longing. Every single look and touch meant something. We wanted this song to feel desperate and full of youth, so we stripped it down to how everything started back when we were kids, jamming in the basement. Guitar, drums, bass, and a distorted vocal.”
As announced in April, The Aces will be touring hard this summer, joining LA-based band Why Don’t We on their North American run and will be popping up at festivals and multiple Pride celebrations across the nation. he Aces kicked off the 2022 Pride season by releasing a queer heartbreak anthem for the ages. The band debuted “Girls Make Me Wanna Die” at WeHo Pride’s OUTLOUD Festival just days before it’s June 4th release. The track came out to immediate acclaim, being hailed as a “sparkling, indie-pop jam” (Billboard Pride) and an “official Pride anthem” (Teen Vogue) and saw support from a myriad of press including NPR, Nylon, Seventeen, AutoStraddle, Consequence, Line Of Best Fit, and more.
The band tapped Dirty Hit artist and The 1975 collaborator No Rome to curate a special remix of the track, releasing today via Red Bull Records. We’re already big fans of his music but this remix is better than anything we could’ve expected.”
THE ACES RELEASE DELUXE EDITION OF ACCLAIMED SOPHOMORE ALBUM UNDER MY INFLUENCE FEATURING “DAYDREAM” REMIX BY PORTUGAL THE MAN
Following the success of their sophomore album, Under My Influence, indie-pop quartet The Aces release a special deluxe edition of the breakout record.
In addition to the album’s original fourteen tracks – including hit singles “Daydream,” “My Phone is Trying to Kill Me,” “Lost Angeles,” and “801” – the digital deluxe release contains the fan-favorite B-sides “Sleepy Eyes” and “Aren’t You” and remixes from Snakehips and Fickle Friends, in addition to a brand-new remix of “Daydream” from GRAMMY Award-winning rock band Portugal The Man.
“We’ve been fans of Portugal The Man for a long time, so hearing that they wanted to remix one of our favorite songs on the album was really exciting. Going into the studio to bring this dreamy, rock and roll take on ‘Daydream’ to life was challenging and really fun. It was a completely new experience compared to any other remix we’ve done. This remix gives ‘Daydream’ a whole new life. Portugal The Man fuckin’ rules, and we love it,” says The Aces’ lead singer and vocalist, Cristal Ramirez.
“We met The Aces a number of years ago when they were just starting out, and I just love the way they have grown as artists,” echoes John Gourley, lead singer of Portugal The Man.
Executive produced and co-written by the band, Under My Influence debuted across numerous Billboard Charts, hitting #53 on Top Albums, #31 for Emerging Artists, and #18 on Heatseekers Albums, in addition to earning a spot in Rolling Stone’s Breakthrough 25 list. With support from Alternative Press, Entertainment Weekly, GLAAD, MTV, NPR, Nylon, PAPER, Refinery29, Teen Vogue, and more, the project received praise for its exploration of love, relationships, mental health, religion, and sexuality, with several band members owning their identities as queer women and using gender pronouns in their music for the first time.
The deluxe release comes ahead of their band’s highly anticipated return to the road for their Under My Influence North American Tour. Kicking off this fall, the women-led lineup sees The Aces joined by pop wunderkind Madeline the Person, Canadian rock band The Beaches, and indie duo Sawyer for a run of dates across the US and Canada.
